NEWS FEED: Viloria Plans More Fights Ahead - 16 MAY 2012

By NICK GIONGCO

MANILA, Philippines - Brian Viloria thinks retirement is still three or four years away but the articulate Filipino-American fighter says he won’t think twice of calling it quits once he senses that it’s time to go.

A day after stopping Omar Nino Romero of Mexico, Viloria told a handful of scribes during an intimate dinner Monday that he is smart enough to know when to call it a day.

Viloria, he of the fast feet and hands, said “the first to go is the speed.”

“I won’t allow myself to be in a position that the reason why I am fighting is because of money,” said Viloria, who has a degree in broadcasting.

Viloria said one of the saddest part of the fight game is seeing a great fighter still going at it despite that fact that he is just a shadow of his old self.

But following his smashing showing against Romero, who looked like a skid row drunk after tasting the fury of Viloria’s punches, the 31-year-old Honolulu-born puncher believes the end is not yet in sight.

“I still feel very good and I feel comfortable at this weight,” said Viloria.

Viloria still has a lot of juice left that he is already thinking of heading back to the road in preparation for his next fight tentatively set for late-August or early-September.

“I can’t afford to take a long rest. A week after a fight, I want to hit the road,” said Viloria, stressing that after he halted Giovani Segura last December, he was doing morning roadwork after a week and a half.

But Viloria will have to move his roadwork further back as he is set to go on a trip to France and Italy with his wife Erika.

One thing is sure, though.

As soon as he returns to Los Angeles, Viloria will have no reason to skip roadwork and light exercises.
Still, Viloria will be in some sort of vacation mode in the next month or so as he is set to attend the June 9 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley in Las Vegas.

Asked about his prediction, Viloria did not bat an eyelash in picking Pacquiao.

“Bradley hasn’t fought on the elite level (that Pacquiao has).”

Viloria said Bradley’s style is tailor-made for Pacquiao and that it is not a question of who is going to win but how Pacquiao is going to get the job done.
