NEWS FEED: Corona to appear at trial on Friday after signing hospital waiver - 24 May 2012

After doctors refused to allow him to appear before the Senate impeachment court on Friday, impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona on Thursday afternoon signed a hospital waiver, clearing his doctors of any responsibility if he falls ill after appearing in court.

With this hospital waiver signed, Chief Justice Renato Corona returns to the impeachment court at the Senate on Friday, health risk notwithstanding.
"I am voluntarily going out on pass on May 25, 2012 to attend the Senate hearing and I take full responsibility for my actions," Corona says in his waiver.

Earlier, doctors at The Medical City said Corona's condition was stable but he was still at risk.

Corona was brought to the Medical City at past 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday after appearing before the Senate impeachment court and delivering a lengthy statement.

Still, Corona said he fully understands the "possible complications" that could happen to him if he appears in court.

While his physicians have explained to him his medical condition, he said, "I insist that I be allowed to leave."

Earlier, dzBB quoted Corona's doctors as saying Corona will have to sign a waiver if he wishes to attend his impeachment trial at the Senate on Friday.

Cardiologist Marian Almajar said they have to run tests on Corona after keeping him under observation for 48 hours.

Earlier, Corona's chief defense counsel Serafin Cuevas said Corona will show up at his impeachment trial at the Senate on Friday. - AM/VVP/HS, GMA News
