Hatton wants revenge vs Pacquiao, Mayweather
MANILA, Philippines – Forer world champion Ricky Hatton has finally bared the real reason for his comeback bid.
Hatton said that the ultimate goal for his return is to exact revenge against tormentors, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“I have only been beaten by the two best boxers of our generation, so ultimately it would be good to have redemption by fighting one of them again and winning,” Hatton told World Boxing News.
The Manchester native, who reached the peak his career by uniting the World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior welterweight crowns, suffered his first career defeat when he challenged Mayweather for the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title in 2007.
Hatton was able to bring the fight to Mayweather in the early rounds, but the crafty American made adjustments later in the fight to score a 10th round stoppage against the Briton.
After recovering with a couple of victories against Juan Lascano and Paulie Malignaggi, Hatton absorbed a more stinging defeat from Pacquiao in 2009.
Pacquiao crushed Hatton in just two rounds, prompting the latter to put his career in hiatus.
After spending 3 years away from boxing, Hatton has decided to box again.
Hatton will test himself against Ukrainian boxer Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Manchester Arena on November 24.
But his ultimate goal, he said is getting back at Pacquiao and Mayweather.
“I want to get back up there at the top of my game, so I suppose that would be the ultimate goal for me to get back at the very top.”
